Worth persevering with gateway. After years of having to reregister time and again (entirely possible that was down to using incorrect log in details as I get impatient) the details saved to my phone now work. I checked my state pension forecast just this week and those pages are so vastly improved I felt the need to thank them on the feedback page. Good luck!
Thanks, I tried again to get in.

It is September - 6 months before my State Pension is due. I have restarted the process.

My Gov UK 'Gateway' account, created & verified April 2016 - is now, I am told, 'dormant', due to changes made to verification requirements of last October, so neither I nor Gov UK can see or access it.

To create a new account there are 3 security questions, two relate to passports - my passport has not been renewed, so those cannot be used. The third asks when I applied for a credit card? But that was ages ago, I don't have the precise date for that, why would I?

So the questions can't be used.

I was then told to contact the Pension Helpline to explain why my Gov UK account cannot be accessed.

I was told not having a Gov UK account shouldn't interfere with receiving my pension.

This is as far as I have got to date.

Thank you. I requested & received my pension forecast in April of 2016, which is when my gov-dot-uk 'Gateway' account was successfully created & verified. The government have now made all gateway accounts 'dormant', created before last October I am informed, so the entire process needs to be repeated. I have already spent 2 days trying to log into / create a new account.

The Pension Helpline have told me not to claim my pension until 4 months before it is due, adding that the forms I need to complete will be sent out in the post in December 2021.

Your April 2016 forecast is of no real relevance.  You need to get a new one to see exactly how you sit now.
When the 4 months prior date arrives you will get a letter in the post inviting you to claim giving all the different options.

That's the first I've heard about that. My account was created long before that, and still works fine.

They did add 2FA to gov gateway back in 2016, maybe anyone who hasn't logged in since that has been marked as dormant?  /Speculation

I think the OP is being optimistic if they think creating an online login and accessing 5 years later is going to work, any IT system should lock or close dormant accounts, that before you consider the system has probably been migrated to a new platform in that time. I access GG 4 or 5 times a year as you say no issues for the last 10 plus years.
