Do mortgage lenders do another credit check before releasing the funds?

We are due to complete in a couple of weeks - about 6 weeks from mortgage offer to completion. We are moving out of central London so will need a car, I have a lease lined up and have been told they need about 2 weeks from the application being submitted to the car being delivered. If I left this until after completion it would be quite a long time to get by without a car - so I was thinking I could apply immediately following exchange. would the mortgage lender do another credit check?

Rent a car till completion - long rentals don’t cost much more than leasing.

When I was in a similar position and didn't want to take out car finance before completion I bought an old van for a few hundred quid - it helped us move our stuff to the new house, I used it to commute for a couple of months, then sold it on for 20 quid less than I had originally paid when my new car was delivered.

When I worked in conveyancing a client of a colleague had their mortgage offer pulled after exchange for this very reason- they took out car finance. Luckily it was a few weeks between exchange and completion and they managed to arrange a mortgage with a different lender, but on much worse terms
