@Porridgecat I think I’ve read the same article at one time! I’m a bit of a child development/parenting geek and I’ve now read several books on kids’ eating (if ever I have a problem the only way I know how to deal with it is to buy a book on the topic, that’s just me 😂).

The approach you describe is definitely a preferred method in all the books I’ve read and roughly what I try to practise. I think removing the power struggles are important. I think it’s one part of the toolkit in that as well as removing the power struggles some children also need a bit more support/structure and I definitely find that with my son. Eg sometimes I do “tasting games” with tiny little bites of different foods and that approach seems to help.

It’s frustrating as he used to eat so well but I’m hoping that eventually he will get past this stage. He definitely seems to have improved to some extent lately.

Not much to report this weekend - no spends.

It’s been lovely weather so we’ve spent a lot of time in the garden. Friday I took the kids to a local playpark, yesterday we went for a walk in the park across the road from our estate and today we all went to a nature reserve we’ve not been to before - it was very nice and the children enjoyed climbing on fallen trees, playing with sticks etc.

    Meals
B - mushrooms and spinach on mini naan bread that’s been hanging round the freezer for ages 😅 kids had cereal and banana

L - kids had tuna & cucumber wraps with a satsuma plus sliced red pepper and carrot. I had leftover pulled chicken and rice with a banana

S - kids had a bourbon biscuit each on our walk then a snack plate with grapes, ham, cheese and oatcakes, I had some biscuits (healthy eating not going as well this week 🙈)

D - fried halloumi slices with a veg/tomato/lentil stew type thing and wholemeal couscous (made double of the tomato bit and froze for pasta sauce), kids both had some Greek yogurt

I used to be a library manager and I always turn to a book if I have a problem 🤣
I had tuna wraps this lunchtime with an apple, a pear, an orange and a slice of cheese 😋

Phoned my mortgage provider today (there’s no online account sadly).

    Mortgage balance 22/03/21 - £112,595

Set up a standing order to overpay £79.50 on the 15th of each month (my payday) as that rounds us up to £500 each month on mortgage payments. On its own this would knock nearly 5.5 years off our mortgage if we kept it up right through, bringing our mortgage free date from 2049 to 2044. Hoping to overpay extra on top of this too but it’s a good start for now! Would love to be under 50% LTV by our next remortgage in 3.5 years but this would mean getting it down to around £85-90k which I’m not sure is feasible - all depends on whether this job contract gets extended or what I do next I guess! Once Bambi is at preschool in 10 months (as long as I do get kept on) we will have £500 extra each month to play with.

    Absolutely gutted 😭

After just ONE DAY back at nursery, Monkey’s nursery have texted tonight to say there’s more Covid cases in his unit and we’ve not to take them in tomorrow until public health have been spoken to. Dreading telling him tomorrow - he was SO excited about going back to nursery 💔😭

Oh no that’s rubbish. I really do hate this situation. DD1 started high school in September and between then and now she’s had 9 weeks in school because of isolations. The poor kids don’t know if they’re coming or going xxx

Oh, poor Monkey. Is Red home this week to look after and entertain him or will you need to do that whilst juggling work?
Good luck to all of you.

@Baileys_Babe luckily Red is off. Next week he’s on call but with no scheduled work so fingers crossed he doesn’t get called out.

It’s been confirmed all the kids need to self isolate til the last day before the Easter break so their unit in the nursery won’t now reopen until 19th April 😭

Monkey isn’t too bothered - he does love nursery but was very excited about getting extra time at home helping daddy with his projects 🥰 needless to say Red is not quite so happy about the situation and I do really feel for him as he was looking forward to both kids finally being in nursery this week.

Glad to hear monkey could see the positives and wasn't too devastated about needing to self isolate.
