Vanguard pension payment gross??

Relief at source is a specific term used in respect of payments where the pension tax relief is added by the pension company i.e. you contribute £80 and they add £20 basic rate tax relief.
There is no pension tax relief with salary sacrifice, you benefit by not having the salary to pay tax or NIC on in the first place. It works more like net pay but instead of not paying tax on the pension contribution (net pay) with the amount sacrificed you don't pay either tax or National Insurance on the amount sacrificed.

What is Salary Sacrifice?
Quite simply a sacrifice happens when an employee gives up their right to part of their salary, in return for a non-cash benefit which is normally exempt from tax and / or NI. It's usually, but not exclusively, an employer pension contribution.
How exactly is it operated by your employer?
What does your monthly salary statement show?
