CCA requests - I have had letters back

Hi,
I was wondering if someone can help with my situation.

I have been in a DMP for almost 8 years and have another 4 years to go. I requested settlement figures last year just before covid hit and they all pretty much said because of the amount I pay each month they are not willing to negotiate. So I left it.

Last month I decided to relook at this and this time sent CCA requests, two have come back via letter stating they're unable to locate the paperwork and at the moment the debt is unenforceable but they have contacted the original lender for them.

Now, when I called to confirm that the original letters I sent have been received and a note has been added to my account. They told me they have already sent the request to the original creditors so it has been sitting at that stage now for 4 weeks.

My issue is what do I do next? Do I continue paying my debt agency (Angel Advance) or not? Angel advance said that I should continue paying for the time being.

Can interest/charges be added if i don't continue paying?

Should I offer a very low settlement figure?

You do not have to continue paying, but of course they would want you too.

Don`t celebrate just yet, its mandatory for the DCA to have to go back to the original creditor for the paperwork, it never leaves them, if they have it, or are able to concoct a reconstituted version, then they will send it to you.

This can take up to a year, but more often its a matter of months, what you do with regard to payment is up to you.

Who are Angel advance ? do they run your DMP ? I assume if they do, your paying them for the privilege of passing on your payments, have you not heard of stepchange or Payplan ? free to use debt charities who run DMP`s for FREE !!!!!

Oh my word, a quick Google confirms it, they take 40% of your monthly payments !!!!!
My advice, ditch them now, your just wasting your money.

  • Yeah they charge an "admin fee". I wasn't previously with them, they purchased another debt agency that I was with. Called I think 123 debt?.

If I change will I have to provide bank statements and do an income and expenditure thing?

    I assume so yes.
Why not do it yourself ?

A self managed DMP is very simple, all you do is send your payments yourself, without any 3rd party involvement.
You don`t need anyone else  to do this for you, if you can write a letter or an email, and are computer literate, then nothing could be simpler.
