Sickness & pay problem

Hello.

Back in November I was diagnosed with a type of leukimia and started treatment in December. So that means I was off work since around early December and still ongoing.
I was paid in full December & January but only received half this month (Feb), when chasing this up it turns out that because I've only been working there 3 years I'm not entitled to full duration of sick pay.. or something, I'd have to be there for 5 years to receive this. I was furious when I heard about this because It's not exactly "normal" sickness circumstances.

My wage this month wont cover my outgoings. I do have some savings that I'll be able to use but if I get nothing next month it won't cover that. I'm worried about it and wondering if there's anything I can do.

Meanwhile my health situation is all good, and although my body is now stronger that it has been in years I'm technicality still "highly vulnerable" since I've been though chemo treatment. I'm trying to get back to work but of course the hematologist is kind of reluctant to say it's ok due to this technicality. I've spoken to the nurse that written my sick note and she said she would consider me fit for work so I'm currently waiting on that. The problem is that she written me a 16 week sick note that was too long and now work wont let me back unless I get some kind of fitness note.

Every company has it's own rules around sick pay entitlement and will be detailed either in the contract of employment or, probably more likely these days, somewhere within the HR section of the company intranet - if they have one.  Being 'furious' about the rules isn't going to change anything.  You may be able to claim New Style ESA and/or UC depending on your income and work history.

Sorry to hear about your illness and hope things continue to go well.  Getting full pay for two months is actually quite good these days, many don't get that.  Would you be able to get UC?

I work in a large cancer hospital - we have had staff been diagnosed and treated, they don't get any special sick pay/benefits
