its still standing

Some  of you may remember in 2014 we had just moved into a flat when we were sent a letter by the landlord informing us that they had applied to demolish the property and sell the land. We jumped through hoops but the landlord refused to let us out of the contract. We ended up staying till August and were very lucky to get a fairly modern house. I did have to pay a months rent  to the ex landlord as our contract did not run out till August. In order to raise the money to move again, I had to sell my beloved sewing/embroidery machine. The money I got just covered our expenses.
.Recently we had cause to go past the property, it is still standing, planning permission was granted for 8 houses on the site, but 6 years later they have still not been able to sell the land. The cost of demolishing the house, which was built in the 1890's was  going to prove to be very expensive. There were bats in the attic which meant that who ever bought the house to demolish had to provide shelter for the bats.......no one took up the offer, so the house is still standing. No one seems to stay for long, the four flats are often advertised to let..........

  • Oh, that's sad - you had to sell your lovely machine & it's all for nothing. I do hope you've managed to get hold of another, somehow.

  • Yes thriftwizard, I have a Janome which is a combined sewing and embroidery machine and also a Brother Stellaire, a stand alone embroidery machine.

Oh csarina, I remember how much you loved your machine. I'm so glad to hear you have been able to replace it.
