Military - Consent to Let - MultiLet

Good afternoon Forumites,
Hope you are all well and staying safe.
I will soon be looking into purchasing my first property while still within the military. I am aware that once the mortgage has been accepted, I can request a Consent to Let agreement to allow the property to be rented out while I am based elsewhere to then live in with my family once my military career has finished (or sooner).
One potential avenue that I may be looking down is renting out the property on a room by room basis (max of 4 tenants). Would this be possible? Has anybody had success in this scenario?

    @richie333 CTLs usually come with the condition that it won't be let out as an HMO (House of Multiple Occupation) and/or will be on a single AST. Letting it out to any more than 2 unrelated tenants may make it an HMO.

    This would be a HMO in many parts of the country and subject to HMO licence and all sorts of extra rules re EICR GSC Pat testing, EPC and fire safety, smoke alarm system interlinked, co alarm, heat alarms, fire doors, turn locks, fire blanket,  room size, electric sockets, number of bathrooms, etc
    Total nightmare while your hundreds if not thousands of miles away.
    Let a Letting agents look after this ? Please No 
    Don't even consider the sharks that offer you long term tenancy agreement where they sublet the property.
    Watch Rogue Landlords and Nightmare Tenants to see how that ends.

    Thank you for the clarification. I was aware of properties that have 5 or more tenants would need a proper HMO licence but had read that 4 or fewer would be allowed without, but obviously not within this scenario (first property, nonBTL mortgage from Day 1, no landlord experience etc).

    I have a friend who has had good success with 4 bed MultiLets but he has got to this point through a completely different path (non-military, 2nd or 3rd property etc).

    Will have to look into another strategy with the first property before looking into this idea again. Thank you
