Eligible for Pension Carry Foward?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but am I eligible to carry forward unused pension allowance from the last 3 years, even if I wasn’t “enrolled” in any UK pensions for those 3 years? I was living and working in the US during that time, so was only contributing to a US pension (401k plan). Previously I had a DC plan in the UK through work as well as a SIPP, but have not contributed anything to them whilst I was in the US, so not sure if that info makes any difference. Thanks for you help in advance!

How much do you expect to earn in the current tax year?

I’m fortunately a high earner so my annual allowance this year could be as little as £4,000. A lot depends on the bonus that I am potentially getting.

If those pensions were open and able to receive contributions during the carry over period, then I'd say that yes, you could use it because you were 'enrolled'. Certainly that was my own situation from a few years back and I've used it all up without any questions arising from HMRC. Just make sure you keep your own records of what you are doing in case they do ask!
