I am wanting to raise some money by selling a dinner service to China Search. they have made me an offer but want me to send it to them before paying any money. Has anyone sold to them? Are they reliable about paying the price they offer? It would cost me quite a bit to get it back from them if they suddeny drop the offer price as it is heavy so a bit nervous about this.

What they are proposing is quite normal, the same would apply if you were selling (say) an expensive camera to a reputable dealer. Some camera dealers will return the item at their expense if they opt not to buy it after inspection or feel they can only offer a reduced price. Maybe worth clarifying that point.
From their point of view the dealer has no proof that you even own the items you want to sell. Any photos etc could be of somebody else's china, camera or whatever for all they know until they get it.
Short of visiting personally (after the lockdown ends) it is hard to think of an alternative unless yu sell it on Gumtree, eBay etc.2 -
There are always auction sales too and some will collect from your home I believe.
If you're near Oxford Mallam's, Mallams Auctioneers | Oxford, Cheltenham & Abingdon, have regular sales that include china services and their site lists sold amounts and has searchable catalogues.
Also, the Old Style board has several posters who are keen on china, if you posted a question about where best to sell giving details of your service you might get other suggestions that could help.0
