I see they use the word "variants".  Didn't we use to say "varieties"?

I see variant used as a pejorative term in science, as in deviant. I must say the yoghurt is delicious although packed full of sugar.

I dispute it being perjorative. If it weren’t for variants, we would still be single celled organisms in a puddle somewhere.
