This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark, cold and frosty start to the day - but no fresh snowfall.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had gammon, egg and salad. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be having but will sort that today.
I have several items on the "to do" list - so will get going with those this morning.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Brr these mornings seem to be getting colder and not forecast to get much warmer as the day goes on. But the mornings are getting lighter much earlier now so Spring must be on its way.
The lovely blue sky and sunshine yesterday prompted me to get off my arris and I resumed the window and frame cleaning again. Just the biggest two left to do now. Then I did a batch cook of soups to replenish my freezer stocks. Leek & Potato and my favourite Lentil & Bacon. I also intended to make some Celery Soup as well but maybe another day! I quite like celery soup and fortunately it bears no comparison to the disgusting celery juice I made a while back. That was the worst tasting juice ever and the waste of a nice head of celery!
The usual Thursday clean of the kitchen and bathroom await then who knows what excitement the day will bring. Oh that's right - nothing! Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, carers and p ****d off. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning all well I wasn't expecting that when i got up this morning most of the snow and ice had cleared yesterday after we had some sun but it looks like we had a good dumping overnight and are back to where we started yesterday oh well never mind I am off to the other house with some bits and to take DS shopping and collect any mail I am waiting on one cheque now and then i can fully close mums bank account and start probate . Dog needs walking but she isn't stupid and is still tucked up under her duvet she does love the snow when we get onto the park i think she would stay out there all day to play unlike me .
Right better drink my tea and get sorted .
Have a good day whatever you are up to stay safe ,warm and dry xxSlava Ukraini13 -
Good morning folks. It's fffffffreezing here. Minus seven right now with a promise of plus one later! 😱 I want to go out, there's so much stuff to take to the tip as the kitchen declutter goes on. I found a very large plastic tray thing which used to hold the bits for the ancient magimix. No idea where the bits are now but the tray is heading out.My lemon loaf turned out very tasty so I'm pleased with it. Just as I had served DM's lunch my cleaner phoned to tell me about a problem at my home. I phoned the farmer neighbour to call round but he was at the furtherest away point possible, up a hill somewhere. Then I phoned another neighbour, whilst I was on the phone to him the delivery from Amazon arrived, my call dropped midway and my own lunch fell on the floor. It was a busy 20 minutes. 😀
I hope that everyone is doing OK, keeping warm and staying calm. Happy Thursday to all.13 -
Morning
Bitterly cold here too no snow of course and the blue sky is deceiving.
Finally called my heating man yesterday about the dodgy boiler. He diagnosed it quickly on the phone as a leak in the outside outlet valve thingy ...technical term It has scraped through thank goodness with a couple of months left on the warranty so fingers crossed a Baxi engineer is coming round on Saturday to sort it out hopefully FOC.
Now I need to do a "there's someone coming in the house" clean up. Was trying to work out last time someone was in here and shockingly it was the above mentioned local heating man back in October for the boiler service
Anyway I'll crack on with that today so that he doesn't have to wipe his feet on the way out!
Hugs to everyone have as good a day as you can x13 -
Morning All
Minus 7 but lovely and sunny this morning, yesterday was glorious too - I managed a walk to the post office to send some valentine goodies to the DGC. Not something I would normally do but I'm trying to send them something each week to keep them going. They were snowed in yesterday so I'm sure they had fun playing.
I've stripped the bed, debating if I should put it out for an hour when it's finished washing, the back of the house is a sun trap but of course it's still mighty cold.
I'm waiting to hear from a plumber, the upstairs loo is constantly filling and the button on the top has stopped working. The thought of all that running water makes me a bit worried.
I have proper work today to do from home so should crack on with that, have to go in tomorrow to get it all sorted.
Hope everyone has a decent day, take care. XX

Morning all, it is -4° here and feels colder, even with a pretty blue sky.
OH has taken the car for MOT and service, he rang DS to call an uber as he has an account and was back quickly. He said that DS rang him back to tell him to wear a mask and sit in the back, nag nag. But I noticed that he went straight to the sink and washed his hands. We should hear from the garage later in the day.
OH made chicken and spinach curry last night and we shared a big garlic and coriander naan bread, that leaves one for me to use as a pizza base tonight. So all I have to do is make some tomato sauce and assemble it with toppings. Easy and no waste of naan 2.
No other news, far too icy on the pavements for me to feel safe going for a walk so I'll just do a bit of a tidy round and then mess about a bit.
I am wearing a vest, it is a black camisole top thingy and I have a little pile of them, I would freeze without. Am also wearing velour trousers and a top, plus an ankle length thick cardigan which is going in holes but it probably doesn't much matter since I'm not going anywhere.
Hope everyone has a decent day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning all, it's a sunny -2 here.Yesterday I cleaned the hall and stairs within an inch of it's life by hoovering and dusting everything, stairs, banister, skirting, walls and the ceiling. The inside of the front door was washed down and the 2 hall interior doors were cleaned including the many panes of glass, 15 each. The other side of the doors now await my attention, but they can whistle for today. This morning I'm waiting for an Iceland delivery, it seems all present and correct. After I've unpacked it, cleaned it, sorted it, put it away and rearranged the freezer after my helper has " helped" it should be about lunchtime. Tea will be something from the delivery, maybe gammon and a jacket potato but that is yet to be agreed. This afternoon I think it will be feet up on the sofa kind of time, reading and TV watching before I need to start again on the bedroom tomorrow.Right another coffee before anything.Take care, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12

Morning all, hope all is well.I didnt get on yesterday due to DGD arriving early for a day of homeschooling to give her Mum a break. I think it's getting on top of her a bit. I think DGD enjoyed the change. It makes it easier that we can download the work and print it off.She completes the worksheets and takes a photo on her phone and sends it in at the end of the day.For RE she had to colour and arrange 10 different pictures in the right order and stick them. Not quite sure how she would have done that at her Mums without a printer! I really enjoyed having her.We went to pick up DGS from school. DS got a message from school saying the main road up to it was closed due to an accident, so we had to go the long way round over the moors, which was lovely as snow was still lying in the hills and fields.DGD enjoyed seeing Manchester in the distance with the towers shining in the sun. They all stayed for tea. It was so nice to have their company, and I know it's been hard for DS2 without our support while we were ill. We have an appointment for our jabs tomorrow.I think we'll all be having different meals tonight to use things up, bit of a faff but I certainly don't want to throw anything else out - it couldn't really be avoided when we were ill and not eating and no room left in the freezer !Take care all xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning all
Its positvely tropical here at -3 and no snow overnight, we have none now as we only had a tiny bit to start with !
DD and I are off to colelct the order of service this morning, dd made it up and sent it to a local man for printing so we will go and collect, I will also get some eggs and bacon etc for a breakfast after we are not having a wake as we are only allowed 6 people but I thought mum and sis etc might want to eat afterwards.
Dinner tonight will be chicken and chorizio tray bake I will get it ready this morning ready to shove in the oven later we will have crusty bread with it.
This afternoon I need to get my clothes ready for the funeral and have a shower and wash my hair, I will have a quick body shower in the morning but wont have time to do my hair as we are leaving here just after 8, so I want to make sure everything is ready today.
Take care all and stay warm xxx13 -
