Tax Code Help

in Cutting tax
I am aware this is probably in the wrong forum, but couldn’t find an appropriate one. My tax code has always been 1250. But for Feb payroll it was 492L. My circumstances have not changed and I am still earning the same amount of money. Any chance someone knows why this has changed?

Have you logged in to your HMRC government gateway and reviewed your NI, tax and employee benefits that HMRC holds? Might shed some light on your situation. Failing that, a call to either your payroll dept or HMRC directly. If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.
Secured/Unsecured loans x 1

Right section but insufficient information.
Tax code could be 492L for a lot of reasons.
You need to check the breakdown of your tax code on your Personal Tax Account (gov.uk) and come back to us with the details if you still think the new tax code is wrong.0 -
Or just HMRC incompetence, seems to be doing the rounds lately. Someone I know left a job in July after earning £1200 ytd with a code of 1250L, new job starts December and they hand over P45. HMRC then decide to allocate a code of 85TX even they have closed off the old job, show as £12500 tax free and expect to pay £0 tax. Idiots. She has updated her expected income and will give it a few days but I expect she will have to spend 45 minutes waiting on the phone to get it sorted.
