Civil Service DBS checking

"In order to process applications without delay, we will be sending a Criminal Record Check to Disclosure and Barring Service on your behalf. However, we recognise in exceptional circumstances some candidates will want to send their completed forms direct. If you will be doing this, please advise Government Recruitment Service of your intention by emailing Pre-EmploymentChecks.grs@cabinetoffice.gov.uk stating the job reference number in the subject heading."
The above is what is stated in a job advert I want to apply for.
Do they not need my ID documents to be able to process a DBS check?
Just the wording of "to process applications" makes it sound like everyone that applies they will do a DBS, or has it just been badly worded and they only check successful applicants?
Just I cant see on the application anywhere to upload my ID?

Normally checks are only done on sucessful candidates (they cost money!). If you get to interview you may be asked to bring documents with you that will be copied (in person... unlikely at the moment)
Or you'll be asked to show your passport/driving licence to the camera if you're having a video based interview (most likely) with documents requested after a sucessful outcome.0 -
You'll need to show the person countersigning the form your ID. I assume you will be working with child and/or vulnerable adults because you can only do a DBS check if that's the case. Unless legislation had changed from when I used to countersign them.0

No, you can do DBS checks for most jobs, you just have to do it at the right level, e.g basic, standard or enhanced.avawat20 said:You'll need to show the person countersigning the form your ID.
