Financial Advisor or Accountant

Hi All.
Long time follower but first time poster, as stuck now on the limits of what i can find out/ work out for myself.
Over the last couple of years have had a good couple of promotions & new getting some nice perks
Company car allowance/ bonus / LTI (Shares) as a result this pushed my income over 100k last year & this year.
First HMRC has my wrong salary estimate, i have fixed this now so do owe them some.
But i want to check with someone am i make the most of my allowance etc. so what if i increase my pension contributions, what's the impact on tax code/ & take home salary.
So question is who is best qualified to  help me with this.
At somepoint also need to discuss inheritance tax
Thanks All

  • There would not be many financial advisors with that level of tax knowledge in my experience. There should not be anything on your list that could not be dealt with by an accountant with reasonable knowledge of personal tax, or indeed, a tax adviser who is not necessarily an accountant.

IHT may need a solicitor or estate planner with specific knowledge in that area, depending on the exact nature of your estate. All depends how near you are to the threshold.

Based on the OP's situation, an Accountant first to manage the tax affairs on the year-to-year basis.  A good Accountant should also be able to make an initial assessment regarding IHT, and give specific advice as to when consideration needs to be given to specialist estate planning.

The OP is also likely to be making some assessment with regard to future resilience and retirement, particularly as pension contributions will likely be a part of the Accountant's suggestions for the efficient management of tax liabilities.  An IFA will be the person to advise on the appropriate investment strategy.
