  • To chasingthewelshdream, can I recommend you try and do some volunteering at your local citizens advice. You will be trained and they should welcome you given you are interested in benefit advice. You should also look at buying the CPAG Welfare benefits book as it is seen as the benefits bible. 
    If not the citizens advice, Google local charities as there should be one who offers advice and advocacy to people.

    Lastly,  for work in a local authority,  you may need to start on the bottom rung of the ladder and work your way up. As well as a benefits department,  housing departments are also good as they deal with both the housing benefit teams and also the DWP.
