I've had success (of sorts!)... I wrote to Keith via snail mail, and also sent him a short message via LinkedIn asking him to keep an eye out for the letter. He saw the LinkedIn message today and called their head office to ask if a letter had arrived (not yet - they're all working from home!) and when they said no, he asked a lovely friendly lady to call me to see what it was that I wanted his help with. She wasn't able to help me on the spot of course, but when I explained the situation she was able to confirm that this sort of 'employee mortgage' situation wasn't that unusual back in the day, when a member of staff was relocating. She knew that for RSA mortgages, they were all sold off to Birmingham Midshire. But she didn't know off-hand if that was the case for Royal Insurance mortgages, and has gone off to do some digging.

Even if that's all she's able to find out, at least it gives us a firm lead for a financial services provider who should be able to help? In which case I'll pass this back to my conveyancer to follow up. i've saved him a lot of time (and probably myself a lot of money!) doing this detective work, but it's his job to follow it through.

Thanks so much for your help - I can't tell you how happy I am to have even this glimmer of hope.
