EU resident buying from UK online

Options
As you can see from my name we are flummoxed about buying from the UK online. I have not been able to find out what the extra charges might be. I went to a company that we use a lot and they will continue to deliver to France, but added customs  duties and extra charges will apply on delivery- they use a courrier. Has anyone any idea what the situation is? Also our son wanted to send a birthday present but again doesn't know what to do ! Thanks. And keep safe everyone.

Your son should send his birthday present and before posting it should complete a Customs declaration marking it as a gift and obviously estimating its value. Probably there will be no issues.

As for buying from the UK: there are plenty of French shops, and if you really want something exotic it is simple to order from Spain, Italy, Poland, Bulgaria... I cannot imagine any reason to bother with customs issues.
  • Thanks ,Voyager. Our son wanted to send us oatcakes and was/is deterred by the food aspect. We are big buyers of second-hand books. However, for everything else we are fine.
