This is driving me up the wall.....
I am using Easus Backup to backup to a NAS drive. Backups stopped because the drive was full. I emptied the bin, and that released lots of memory and I coiuld continue backing up. I then thought I would delete some backup files I don't need. Try as I might I can't seem to do that, even though I can delete other files eg a word file.
I have tried to delete through Windows 10 and it says the file is in use.
I have tried to delete through the command prompt - didn't work
I installed IObit unlocker which showed the file wasn't locked.
I trawled the internet and have tried various things which I didn't think would work and haven't (thumbnails came up a lot), and some which I didn't trust enough to do.
I called Easus (great company btw) who recommended uninstalling their product and then deleting the files. I did that but still can't delete.
It might be easier to just restore the drive to factory settings, but does anyone have any ideas how to find what is 'already in use' or how to delete the file?
Thanks

I have 5 folders on the drive and one of them but no other, has a 'trashbox' I just tried to drag the file to the trashbox but it won't allow me to do that.

Simplest possibility first - is the file marked 'read only' ? Right click on the file, select properties and see if the read only box is ticked.
Second is to see if the file is 'owned' by you. Rt-click on the file, choose 'security', click on your username in the top box and see what controls you have in the box below - hopefully you will have 'full control'0 -
Third is to try 'shift-delete' to force delete the file
Forth is to restart the PC in safe mode (google how) and try deleting it.0 -
Does your NAS have a web interface?

Restart the NAS. Power cycle it ideally from the web interface, failing that the power switch.

Thanks guys. The one thing I hadn't done was to switch it off and on again !!!That worked and I feel very silly and red faced. It is always good to be reminded of the basics.2
