advice on buying pottery wheel

I am looking at buying a new pottery wheel - The best ones are really expensive and its a present for someone who just wants to try a new hobby. There are some on Ebay that come from China ranging from £250 onwards. Can anyone advise on better of these and what spec to go for? typically 25cm plate 250w - any advice would be really welcome. Thank you

If you buy anything of this value from China, or anywhere outside UK, you should budget for paying around 30% extra for import duty and taxes. If your lucky, you won't get charged but it's something to be prepared for if you buy from China.0
