I was going to watch this film with my daughter tonight but can't really remember what it is about and I'm scared incase it tells her there is no such thing as Santa. Has anyone seen it recently? Is it suitable, don't want to spoil things for her?

Oh I think it is a wonderful film and absolutely suitable for a 5 year old! The film's message is that there is such thing as Santa...in whichever form people want that to be....I am sure she will love it and you will love watching it with her. Prefer the original myself, Natalie Wood is so wonderful as the little girl. Though the modern version is obviously more relevant and might appeal more to your little one.
Enjoy!A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
I agree. You'll believe in Santa Claus again by the end of this film.
The modern 1994 version is widely regarded as the best film remake ever. The studio were so confident in it, that they offered anyone who didn't enjoy it their money back: only 1500 people claimed.
However, IMHO, it still doesn't quite beat the 1947 original.
PS. Macy's department store in New York refused permission for their name to be used in the remake. I respectfully suggest that this may not have been one of their better decisions. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I totally agree with everything that has been said, probably the colour version would appeal more to a 5 yr old but like has already been said i absolutely love the original black and white version and i may be 44 yrs old with 3 kids of my own but i STILL believe that there is a Santa Claus and thats thanks to this film along with some others:D.We love what we are doing and we love why we're doing it!!0

My three year old and I watched it last weekend! Perfectly 'safe' - it's a sensible little girl who thinks there's no such thing as Santa but firmly believes by the end, so don't worry - it might even help if she hears rumours from friends that they don't believe!
We saw the colour version as I thought he'd get on with it better. It's quite 'wordy' so he did get bored in a few places, but I think by 5 he'd concentrate better and understand more.I think you'll both enjoy it loads!Hope this helps - Oh and merry christmas to you!
