Bought an N reg fiat punto got it home 2 months ago and had to call rac to solder a wire in the key code.(same day of purchase)
Eg the orange key code light stayed on and wouldnt start car.
Its now happened again and rac man soldered again but wouldnt work(different guy this time)I have no master key with key codes.
The car also rolled backwards with handbrake on.
I made the guy aware of the problems when I got it home,he was a private mechanic and had numerous fiat puto,s on his drive and advertises them over the internet on one of the car sites.
I would like my money back I bought it on 16 sept.
Where do I stand ? He sold me a duff car.
I found a guy who could make a masterkey and withdraw out the codes cost £250. I only paid £500 for the car.
The key man said it might be the wire but auto electricians said get back on to the seller it should be fit for purpose.
What can I say or should I do ?
no car now its useless.
I could have the locks changed and key codes cost £1000 to £2000.
I cant talk to citizens advice they dont take telephone enquiries.
Thanks

You could try giving trading standards a call, but I suspect they will simply say the car was sold as seen, you had the opportunity to inspect it before purchase (or pay somebody to do this) and then completed the deal.
If you had complained on the day of purchase when the problem first occured you might have had a stronger stance, but now several months later I suspect you have little come back.

Hi
It happened to me; broke down within one hour of buying; but as it was sold as seen like most second hand cars; it's the risk you take.
Luckily, a few weeks later whilst I was at work [on site, so was in a company pick up truck], someone stole it. Literally stole it!!! They nearly ran a friend over whilst doing it, and to be honest I only found out it was stolen when that friend had a go at me for nearly running him over, and I realised that I was 50 miles away at the time that it had gone.
The other funny thing about that car was a couple of months later, another friend called me and berated me - he had been flashing me for weeks every morning on his way to work and I hadn't flashed back, apparently the thief used the exact same journey to work as I had been...very strange experience.
Best let go and learn from the experiencce; you can possibly ask the guy you bought it from for the master key or what he would do if this happened to him; but I can't say what response you would get.0 -
Update.spoke to consumer direct, told me to write a letter to the guy I bought the car from.
I think the guys a dealer from home as he advertises automart etc.
I,ve not had the car 3 months and well he said he would do nothing, and I said have you heard of the sale of goods act !.and I,ve not had it 3 months yet!.
He said he,d be round at 1pm and arrived half hour earlier took out the ECU box and now no immobiliser exists.
The orange light means nothing now.
Can be stolen with a screw driver now !.
Fact is if this guy could detach an immobiliser?ecu from my bonnet can you imagine how many cars are stolen in this way.
All the expert auto electricians and experts didnt tell me I could have this done and it didnt cost me a penny.
The so called experts basically made out I was fuked then I rang the guy who does master keys for punto,s and I said why didnt you tell me this could be done,he said your cars now not insured.Well Im not going to tell the insurance company will play stupid, but it drives and didnt cost me a penny.
Any comments appreciated.0 -

Get a grip
You paid banger money for a banger, a banger you have used for almost 3 months
You complained, he made the car driveable again
Either pay for the repair or live without the immobilised but the SOGA only applies to traders, firstly I think you will struggle to prove he is a trader, additionally the SOGA is based on value etc
I very much doubt they are going to find in your favour on such an old low value car
Get a grip, if you want no problems spend new or nearly new money0 -
I,ve not lost my grip In fact Im on cloud nine.
I dont think I explained very well.
The seller came round took out the immobiliser in 5 minutes.
Didnt charge me a penny.
It was the experts who were telling me a load of rubbish.
I rang my regular garage for mot,s and he said it wont make any difference to my mot and the insurance company wont know its been taken out.
I do value peoples difference opinions but telling me to get a grip twice sounds quite over the top.But thanks,I cant afford a newer car I got in debt to pay the £500.0 -
Are you happy with the outcome now?
That's the main thing.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000
