Tax payment deadline

Eek!
Just paid my self assessment tax bill online.
But due to a million stresses I'd stupidly lost track of time/notion-of-days-of-week, and realise that paying today means that the payment won't actually go through until the 1st of Feb - missing the Jan 31st deadline!
Aaaaarrrrrrrrghhhhh!!
I feel so stupid!
What will happen? What will the fine be? Will my credit score be ruined!
Can I email HMRC and somehow get some leniency?
I know it's all my fault, but I've earnt barely 2 grand since March last year, maybe they'll take pity?
Aaaaarrrggh!!!
Sorry, for being stressy, but everything is just terrible!

Thanks

No fine. No affect on credit. No action whatsoever by HMRC. You will be debited one days interest at 2.6% per annum equivalent to 7p per thousand owed. So, if you owed £5000 you will be hammered for 35p!

    RELAX!!!!!!!
  • Thanks purdyoaten2. Calming down a bit now! :)
Just to clarify... Why did you say 'No fine?' and 'No affect on credit?' as questions? Did you mean them to be statements, or are you, like me, wanting answers to this?
Your email generally seems to suggest that I have nothing to worry about, but I just wanted to clarify this point.
    Thanks

I worked in tax for 40 odd years. I await many answers but not to this :). Please rest easy. There is definitely, absolutely, categorically nothing to worry about!

I have removed the question marks.

See the end of this thread also.

  • Thanks for making that clear.
    I feel much better now!
So, this interest charge of a few pennies, how will they reclaim that? Will I get a bill in the post?
  • It will appear on your account at some stage. Given its size, it will not be demanded. However, when you next make a payment it will be added to the amount due. In fact, if you log on to your account in a few days you will see it there. (I have a client who paid what I advised yesterday evening - less the 16p credit that was sitting on her account)
