Advice on Lowells - Old EE mobile bill

Hello,
My husband has received a few letters from Lowells regarding an old mobile phone contract with EE for £100. He refuted the cost and asked Lowells for proof of this debt. Their response was that it was built up call costs before he cancelled his contract but were not able to forward any proof.
He has now received a letter to 'pay 50% of the bill at £50. If we pay this to get rid of them will it improve his credit rating in any way. Also is not paying this affecting his credit rating? Thank you.

Lowell are chancing their arm, they can’t prove the debt, so can’t take you to court.
Does the debt show on his credit report ?A settled debt looks better than an unsettled one, the score is irrelevant, it’s the history that counts.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. He needs to check his credit report(s)
Free services are available from
Experian (mse credit club)
Equifax (clearscore)
TransUnion (credit karma)
If it is there it will stay till 6 years after the default date. If he isn't planning to need to do a mortgage application or similar he could ignore this as they are unlikely to take court action on a small sum that they can't prove.0 -
Thank you both. This has been ongoing for possibly 5-6 years. We moved into our home 7 years ago and have no intention of moving again. Based on that we will ignore letter. I will also run a free credit report to check.0
