It's all parents so not sex discrimination - I wonder if there is enough of a correlation between being a parent and being (not) married that that protected characteristic is relevant.

    Or being homosexual?

Also effectively taking a 4% pay cut for the extra 10 days work...
Homosexuals have children all the time!
Nobody has been given a pay cut!

You're right, what has effectively happened is employees with children has received a payrise their childless colleagues have not received.
So what? Nothing unlawful about it.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Is it actually an additional 10 days' leave, or an additional 10 days' paid emergency dependents leave or something similar?

We've done the latter. It means if a member of the household (and therefore the whole family) have to self-isolate, the parent doesn't have to attempt to work if they've also got young children under their feet, and they won't lose money.

How many employees are being given this extra leave out of how many ?

I would enquire as to who will be expected (and how) to cover their absence

How does this extra leave DIRECTLY affect you - will it increase your workload, will it affect when YOU can take/request leave

I think often - management overlook how "inequalities" like this can cause resentment even when they are legal and "sensible"

That is a management issue and nothing to do with the OP unless it directly affects them.

I think most employees have a grasp of how cover for holidays works - therefore if the norm is for them to take on extra shifts/overtime/duties at the expense of other tasks, it wouldnt be unreasonable to enquire - imo

I guess it could depend on what the  employer - employee working relationship is like.

Some are very symbiotic and some very confrontational - only the OP knows what theirs is like

Some places positively encourage employees to raise issues/concerns/problems whereas others (It seems) frown upon it

They do but I'd have thought still to a lesser degree than straight people.

Certainly the majority of gay people I know don't have kids whereas the majority of straight people do.
