Thank you again for your responses I guess it helps hearing from people who have a better understanding but been at the start of a journey. 

The broker has been blocked quite scary the lengths he was going to and whilst I understand that a potential DMP is not without risk it seems a better option than in 6 years is still having debt instead of nearly paid off.

Thank you for some reassuring words the best decision so far was posting on here and getting honest information, still no doubt will have many more questions. Very grateful though...

Phew! I for 1 am really relieved to hear that good sense has won through. So pleased you blocked that broker with all the terrible scare tactics they were filling your head with.

So time to draw breath, take stock, speak to SC (or similar) and formulate a plan to work on. All those steps will help you feel better.
