Bank statements

Options
We’ve had an offer accepted on a house today so looking to put in our application with Kensington via our broker this week. With regard to bank statements, what exactly are they looking for?
We essentially have a current account each and two savings account in my wife's name (one raindy day account with around £5k and a larger account with our deposit). My wife has been on maternity leave for a year so I was paying all the bills for a few months whilst she was unpaid.
Until around November we managed our money by moving it between various accounts to ensure bills were paid while she was on unpaid leave, and by replenishing the smaller savings account each pay day. Inevitably this meant that at one point there was <£100 in my current account. Once we realised we would be looking to move we closed the smaller savings account and just kept the money in our current accounts so that they always have a few thousand pounds in them.
The other worry is a couple of times in November my dad transferred me money to make purchases / pay a credit card bill for him (he’s no good at online banking or shopping!).
Are either of these things likely to be an issue?

  • If your dad is no good at online banking how did he transfer you money?

that’s your first hurdle, explaining that
  • Are you staying within agreed limits? (difference tolerance to going over limits with different lenders)
Do you have any credit on bank statements that doesnt appear to be on the credit report?
Do you have any monthly commitments that wouldnt show on credit report? (maintanance, hmrc debt are 2 examples)
Any transfers to other accounts that may be hiding the above?
Are you getting child benefit but have declared 0 dependents as this increases the borrowing amount?

That kind of stuff.   They mostly dont care how much you spend at starbucks.  Just that you arent hiding anything and that they can see a full picture of your committed expenditure

What are the sums involved?  If it was to pay a credit card then presumably there's a corresponding debit to match the credit you received.

Yes. He wanted to pay his bill in full (£450) so I did it via my bank as it was easier than talking him through registering a new payee or setting up online banking for his credit card. He sent me the money then out goes a debit to MBNA for the same amount. The other occasion he wanted to purchase a Christmas present (a ring) but didn’t know what a good site was to buy jewellery . So I purchased one then he transferred me the money (around £350). Didn’t think anything of it at the time.
