in Techie Stuff
Morning.
I have an Acer Aspire 5750, running Windows 10.
It powered up ok first and I was in Excel, but then it froze. No keys or mouse would work, so I felt I had no option but to do a hard shut down (press and hold the power button until it shut down).
I left it for a couple of minutes and then powered up. Its whirring and the screen has ambient background light, but black/blank... nothing happening.
I tried Ctrl alt del, and the Acer symbol flashed up with a press F2 option, which I did, but that takes me to a strange menu.
InsydeH20 setup utility rev 3.5.
It shows that reboot is set to the HDD, which is as it should be (I think). When I exited that menu, it just went back to the blank screen.
So, is it broken, what can I do?
Please not too technical...I'm not a techie by any stretch.
Thanks.

A quick google tells me that it has a removable battery so maybe try this.Remove battery and unplug power cable. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds (yes, that long). Leave battery out, plug power cable back in and try againAny use?1

Thanks, just tried that...still nothing sadly.
Just the whirring and the blank screen. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
HmmmDo you have all your important data backed up?The fact that you can get into the BIOS screen (by pressing F2) indicates that the screen is still OK.Can you start in 'safe mode'?

Just trying that....it's now just beeping loudly at me!!!!!
F8 didn't seem to do anything.
Ooh, it stopped beeping....still nothing. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Important stuff is backed up, to Google drive (as at month end) and other stuff on a usb. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

Make a note of what the bleeps are telling you. This is what happens after power on, it does a POST (Power On Self Test) and the bleeps will follow a pattern make a note of them then search for the pattern by asking Auntie Google or post back here.0

It was about 6 or 7 bleeps at about 1 second intervals...then a few (4?) at longer intervals...then they stopped.
Very loud and very annoying!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

On my mobile, via home WiFi.
This all seems to be pointing towards finding a local, recommend repairer 😞 or a new laptop.
DH is researching that option...but that's a minefield in itself.🤯
How do you do a clean reinstall of W10 if the laptop isn't doing anything. I haven't got any disks or anything, it was a downloaded upgrade. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Do you have access to another computer?
Or a friend who is computer savy who could deliver a USB stick?
Does the black background have a movable mouse cursor on it?Those beeps are probably communicating an error condition. I'll see if I can find a tech manual for your laptop and work out what they mean.I wouldn't panic about buying a new laptop just yet. This situation, with a little help, is probably recoverable.
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?1
