Hi all, I was wondering if there is any financial help for people who have not been able to find work due to moving during, or like me, just before the pandemic hit? Thanks

Hi, there's this handy government page : https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators
This link from Citizens Advice is also really helpful : https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/
Hope that's helpful, good luck. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. If the OP is unable to claim UC, depending on NI contribution record, they may be eligible for nJSA (which does have a contributions-based element). Even if JSA is not available, registering at the Job Centre can be worth while as it allows you to register for your NI Stamp to be paid plus also they offer practical support such as evaluating your skills and alternative roles you may be suited to but not previously considered.1

If you haven't been able find work since March then you are certainly doing something wrong, there have been plenty of job around especially in supermarkets and retail.suestew said:Hi all, I was wondering if there is any financial help for people who have not been able to find work due to moving during, or like me, just before the pandemic hit? Tokmon, that's not very helpful. Whilst in principle I agree, we don't know the circumstances so little point in guessingAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......3

You forgot supermarket or Amazon delivery driving.
*sarcasm*
You haven't got the first clue re who the OP is, what age, gender, state of physical and mental health, personal circumstances. . and your idea of advice is to tell them it's their fault they can't find a job and to go stack shelves?
Example: I'm a 50 y old woman, I'm tired and jaded, I've had enough, I don't drive and never will, I'm weak physically and MEGA fragile mentally, I've had four office support/PA/EA jobs in the last 25 years. .given a choice between killing my body and mind in a supermarket for half a pence an hour and getting on benefits for a time I wouldn't hesitate to choose the latter.
I'll stop here.
OP- the situation we're in at this present time is about survival. Everyone for themselves. You need to get yourself on Universal Credit or JSA for now and worry about finding a job when the world begins to half resemble some kind of semi normality.
I've been incredibly fortunate to be working from home since it all began and that's about all I can do if I am to sustain my health and keep my sanity.
I wish you all the very best.. finding a decent job that's not a waste of your time and life is hard as hell at the best of times, let alone now.

There is nothing wrong with supermarket work for minimum wage, i currently have a very technical well paying job but if i lost this job then i would be looking for any work if i couldn't get another job in my industry due to everything that's going on. Fair enough if people want to be choosy but then they are effectively choosing not to get a job and not unable to get a job.
I think benefits should be for people who genuinely need them and not people who are being fussy and think certain jobs are beneath them.
Obviously if someone has a genuine disability or illness that prevent then doing certain jobs that's fair enough.4 -
There are many things in some picture perfect fairy tale version of life which are supposed to be this that and the other. Like I said, life now, today, is not about doing what you're supposed to be doing, be it benefits or anything else really- legally and within reason, obviously. We are in a middle of a global pandemic. It's about survival. Physical survival. Continuation of your one and only life on this planet. I don't care about what I'm supposed to be doing because I only live once. Enough said.0

Exactly you only live once; so people need to make life count and to survive people need a job and earn enough money to be comfortable.
Your username "Iamdebtfree" suggests you were once in debt that negatively effected you and most people will agree being in debt is awful for mental health and can really ruin your enjoyment of life. So personally i wouldn't want to be living on benefits and sitting at home all day and not having enough money to do anything, i would much rather have any job and then i am at least in control of what i earn.
