Email from Lantern re debt i don't owe

I have received an email from Lantern Debt Recovery Service saying a Payday UK debt of £420 that I owe has been sold to them. I had a small number of payday loans about 15 years ago, all of which were paid off in full. I did then have an IVA which covered some other debts but that was settled in 2017 and since then I have successfully rebuilt my credit file, to the extent that I managed to get a mortgage last year.
Why would Lantern be contacting me and what can I do about it? I always keep all financial records for 10 years but as the payday loans I had were settled longer ago than that I no longer have the paperwork or any documentation about the loans or proof that they were settled. Help!

Send them a prove it letter. That will probably put an end to it.1

I`ve moved your post to a more appropriate board.
Lantern (previously known as motormile finance) sometimes buy up large portfolio`s of old, statute barred, or otherwise iffy, old credit debts.
They then try to collect on these accounts hoping the debtor is unaware of there rights, and will pay up without a fuss.
It can be quite lucrative for them, as lots of folk have no idea what to do when it comes to companies asking them for money.
Above advice is good, see what they come back with, keep us updated yes.
