Employment agencies

I can understand why agencies want a copy of passport. But I don't understand why one agency want your NI number? Surely, this is only for would be for future employer?

Thanks

i have come across this question before from someone else.  i think they want to make sure you have the right to work in the UK and having a NI number means that you do.

an agency would be asked by the employer to vet candidates.  some agencies actually carry out the initial interviews and do the HR vetting for employers themselves.  so an agency may want to check that you have the right to work in the UK before they take you on as they would not want to waste time with candidates that had no right to work in the UK, or pass that candidate details to their clients without the initial vetting required.

i can't remember what the outcome of that other post that i recollect, so unfortunately i can not tell you what the result was to that question, which is similar to yours.

Not necessarily. An NI number is for life but a work visa has a defined span so you could have a prospective employee with an NI number but no entitlement to work because their visa has expired.

They'd need it if the candidate worked for them as a temporary as it would be the agency paying them not the client company.
