iPods

Hi, I know nothing about them but son has asked for one for Xmas.
Now that the £20 John Lewis code is not being accepted, does anyone know of any good deals going ?
The best I can find is Comet for £159 for the 80 GB Classic, inc a free speaker dock ( whatever that is)
Amazon £143 - £147 inc free delivery,
Apple £149.23 inc free engraving and shipping.

Also, do I need to consider accessories, or do I just get the cheapest price for the iPod itself ?

I was told Argos was advertising some offer for iPods - but I keep missing the TV adverts, and the website only mentions 1/3 off some accessories, with certain models.

I am clearly out of my depth here, so need you help.
Thanks in advance, and merry Christmas - if I can get this one sorted I will feel relieved;)

    Doesn't want much does he!
Why don't you get him one of the new iPod Nanos, less than £100 and play videos.
go into Tesco and get them to explain them to you.
You get all you need in the box i.e USB lead to connect and charge from your PC and the ear buds. The speaker dock adaptor is just a piece of plastic which fits the adaptor socket on an iPod compatible speaker system.
You will need to download iTunes from the Apple website to manage/buy music. 79p a track.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

and iTunes allows you to rip your CDs onto the ipod, it's dead easy.

it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)
  • 80GB is a heck of a lot of storage. I'm sure you could get him a smaller one and he still wouldn't fill it up!
  • Do you know anyone going abroad soon? They're a lot cheaper at Dixons in the airport

not sure if your aware but the european ones have a volume cap on them so that you dont hurt your ears.got my other half a ipod classic from japan and saved about £10 and it doesnt have the volume cap . so if you like your music loud get one from america/japan.or get some decent head phones not the ones that come with the ipod.

that's nonsense, my 80gb classic is deafeningly loud, you just have to turn the songs up on itunes.

How old is the son in question? If he's a teenager i imagine a nano will do, they go through bands like water at that age (or at least i did)... Or if he's not a huge music fan and just wants a few tunes to walk about to the shuffle is a great lil device (but it has no screen so doesnt do video).

I have an 80gb ipod classic and im still only up to 50gb or so... (and im 28! lol)

it is not nonsense. and if you do as you say you will reach full volume at only half the dial. as this is what i have done. it is a little louder but not as loud as i would have liked. do a search on youtube for the ipod volume test and you can see what you are missing.

Yes I know all the details about the code says it should still be valid - but from reading that particular thread I am obviously not the only one who cannot get it to work.
I have just tried again using a different email address etc, but when I enter the code I get the message:-
X&%$£!!/** is not a valid code.
If anyone else wants to try for themselves the code can be found here:

Sorry I cannot do the quick link - told you I am rubbish with all this techno stuff
