Reduced pension for being opted out

My husband was opted out with one of his employers back in 1978 to 1988.
His state retirement pension will be reduced by £36 per week. The HMRC states he should receive that amount from a private pension however he was given bad advice and to cut a long story short we had to apply for a mis sold policy. He didn't get much back in compensation.
My question is that when he retires he would have worked just over 50 years. So can he top up any national payments to get the £36.00 state pension reduction back? Hope that makes sense. Thank you

You will get better responses if you provide his State Pension forecast. The full details.
Is he working now and will he work in the future (before State Pension age).0 -

Post up the details of the forecast. Very unusual for someone contracted out for a few years that far back not able to make up the difference through employment. Or are you confused by the forecast, as many are, mistakenly assuming the COPE amount will be deducted from the quoted pension amount ?
