I re-use them (and other) glass jars to make more candles.

On the yankee candle FAQ it does state not to re use the jars for either food storage or candles.

    I wonder why.

It says the glass is recyclable so that means it isn't toughened like Pyrex.  If it can withstand the heat from a Yankee candle, why from no other?
(I've never had one of these candles so maybe the answer is obvious to those who have.)

And what is special about it that food would come to harm?  I would use old coffee jars to store pasta, nuts, dried fruit and so on, so why not one of these?
I presume that it's the residue of candle wax they're worried about - They're american, after all, and are anxious not to be sued because someone's rice stored in one of their jars gave them a dicky tum. After all, in American law, if they don't tell you categorically you can't then legally you can - and sue if it goes wrong.

The quickest and cleanest way to remove the wax left at the bottom is to fill them with boiling water in an empty sink and leave the wax to melt & rise to the top. Once cooled it will form a disc at the top of the jar & the rest of the jar will be totally clean.

If the wax is really thick, I sometimes wait for it to soften & poke it with a chopstick to loosen & sometimes do this process twice but works every time!

So is the glass tough enough not also to need a metal instrument (eg a spoon) to be in the jar and reaching outside?
