Incredibly anxious

Options
Hi everyone. My husband and I have a mortgage offer with Halifax and we are due to exchange/complete this week. We went bankrupt in 2013 and the whole process of applying for a mortgage has been so scary for me. I just couldn’t believe it would happen. I’m now terrified they Halifax are going to withdraw their offer for some reason just before we exchange. I feel so anxious and sick. Nothing has changed in our circumstances. I think my CC balance is possibly £10 more than it was but that’s because I couldn’t get a completely up to date figure at the time of application. I’ve not used it. Our circumstances haven’t changed at all and we havent taken out any credit or anything. I’m just in love with the house we are buying and so, so nervous. Is this normal? Are problems at this point rare? Could Halifax have changed their criteria since offer and decide we no longer meet it?

thanks. Sorry to sound crazy!

Hi, I’m sure you will be fine!  I was bankrupt in 2013 as well and never thought I would ever get to buy a home of our own but we completed on our dream house last summer!

As long as your lender is aware of your bankruptcy or did not ask the question ‘Have you ever’ then you’ll be fine!

Best of luck in your new house x

You are not alone in feeling this way! House buying is a very stressful activity, because the problems that can arise can be very serious and create lots of worry and stress. However, I don't think you will have any problems - even you seem to realise that your fear of Halifax pulling their offer is a little irrational. Halifax have been in the mortgage business for nearly 200 years, so they know that once they make a firm offer, if they pull out, the repercussions are serious. I've not heard of this happening a few days before exchange is due to happen.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

It is not uncommon in your shoes. Most of the people we see have bad credit to some degree or another and it tends to be those people (more so than first time buyers) who are the most nervous.

If you have answered the questions truthfully and your circumstances have not changed (a tenner on a CC is not a change) then there is no reason for them to pull the offer.

Thanks yep our circumstances have not changed at all. Except we both have had slight pay rises and we have paid off more on our car PCP so I guess in a better position really! I think I’m doubly anxious because due to the bankruptcy and my husband sub contracting we were so limited with lenders in the first place 😪. Such a nervy time. Really appreciate all the replies xx

Does anyone know if Halifax actually do credit checks at completion? I just feel like they might decide nah we don’t want them! X

Sending you a big hug.  I know how you feel.  Now we're almost at the final stage, i feel sick.  The joy of looking at curtains and furniture has been replaced with What If and scouring this forum for reasons i might now be rejected.
Stay calm and find something to distract you.  Xx

I really feel for you. I had the same incredible anxiety for no good reason between exchange and completion. It caused me incredible stress and it was a four week gap between thanks to our incompetent, unhelpful and patronising solicitor.

Please do update and tell us it was all ok (which it will be)!
