Yes I drive and plan to get a car to explore,  but I am really a city dweller so don’t think I will venture outside the city limits for he house.

i think Fred is following me!
I just give good advice wherever I see an opportunity to help. If you are single and live on your own a bicycle may be more suitable.
  •  :D  Fred you are a riot!

I probably should buy a studio flat, and sound proof it so people can’t hear me crying every night.

or just give up altogether, why go on when I have so little in my life.

    have a lovely evening Fred.
  • There are some teething problems with Brexit, same as in GB, nothing major, you know no ones keeling over from starvation :)

A car is needed outside the city, transport links aren't the best, but within Belfast they are grand. If you aren't bringing one with you then hiring for weekends exploring is easy enough. A bicycle in the city isn't such a bad idea, the traffic can be gridlocked at home time, but its nothing like London :)

And please do explore outside of Belfast, The Island of Ireland is beautiful, where I live myself is just stunning, beaches, Glens, fields as far as your eyes. And of course you can drive to Dublin from Belfast in about an hour ( passport not required :)  )

I love it here, to me the way of life suits me, it reminds me of growing up in London in the 70's, small independent shops and pubs, knowing your neighbours and a great community spirit. You will love it . All the best with your move

Oh btw, if you use a removal company, apparently you now have to fill in a customs declaration , if you do a man in a van and move yourself, you dont
  • It’s a great city and the people make it. I’ve lived in Scotland, London and Dublin but was delighted to come home to Belfast. I’d suggest you take your time over where to buy. East and South are generally the popular areas and personally for me having lived in both East is far more community centred and friendly. You also get more for you money than lots of areas in South Belfast. Just my tuppence worth, but good luck and throw yourself into living here and you’ll love it.

its just over 100 miles, so 2 hours is more realistic!

Car ownership is much lower in NI. Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) ,Insurance and road tax in the republic is very expensive. Only fuel is on a par!

My experience in Northern Ireland was that public transport was great, especially around Belfast and the corridors out to Bangor and Lisburn. I’d love to be on £70k and living in NI, you really should plan to travel around though, the countryside is amazing!

I think it depends on what you're used to. I came from London and it seems terrible in comparison. I was used to going on a night out and jumping on a bus/tube home at all hours. In Belfast you're sitting around waiting on taxis as there's no other option. Its not the worst, but if you're used to London, I certainly wouldn't rate it above 'adequate'.
