Statutory Holiday Entitlement

Hi Forum,
I have looked hard and wide and can't seem to find the right answer.
I work every other weekend, so when I book a weeks holiday I always have to take 6 days of my holiday entitlement as I will be working one of the weekends. Depending on how the weekend fall I may have to take 12 days when I take 2 weeks off. Other colleagues work less weekends so only even have to take 5 days holiday to get a week off.
One colleague has booked 4 weeks off and only had to use 20 days holiday.  I have booked 4 weeks off and had to use 24 days holiday.  Can this in anyway be correct? The way it works now I am never going to be able to get 5.6 weeks off. more like 4.4 weeks.
I was under the impression I was entitled to 5.6 weeks off. ACAS SAYS:
You're entitled to 5.6 weeks' paid holiday (statutory annual leave) a year.
Your 5.6 weeks' legal minimum holiday is usually made up of:
20 days = 4 weeks
+ 8 days (which can be the year's bank holidays) = 1.6 weeks
Any advice  would be appreciated

How many days a week do you work? The 5.6 weeks works out as 28 days based on a five day week. If you are working every other weekend then you are either working every other week as a short week or you do more than 5 days a week.

I work a 6 day then 4 day, and my working week goes from Sunday to Saturday.  So 10 days out of 14. Others work less or no weekends. so no matter what week I book off its always going to need 6 days holiday, even though the weekends are covered by additional staff. So they could give me 5 days booked ended with the weekends off.

If you work 10 from 14 you only need 10 days holuday to get 14 days off.

Depending on your work pattern it will be more than 14 days just not weekend days.

    What is your work pattern?

    Can you swap days?

2 weeks isn't so much of an issue unless I am working the 1st or 3rd weekends of the two week, but I plan my holiday around that so I only have to take 10 days.
The problem is when I book a week I am working one of the weekends with one day off planned in the week so always have to take 6 days holiday to get the full week off.
For instance if I am working the first weekend, I will be working Sat, Sun, Tues, Wed Thurs Fri. If I am in the second weekend I will work Mon, Tue, Wed, Thurs, Sat, Sun,

When it comes to holidays weekend days are not special.

    Not seeing your shift pattern.

In a two week period which 10 days do you work which 4 days do you have off

So if you know your days in advance, why do you need to book a day you wouldn't be working?
