It looks like there is no limit to how much one can overpay (both in terms of time and money) as long as each amount transferred to mortgage account is at least a penny less than 3X the monthly contractual repayment amount. So theoretically, one can even repay the entire mortgage balance in a day by making multiple transfers and ensuring each transfer is under the 3X limit.
