How to improve credit rating

Options
Hello everyone please be kind I’m new 😊
me and my husband have previously had a lot of debt, we have managed to clear most of it with the help of step change and now only owe £4.500 which we are ploughing every penny into getting rid off it . The company’s who we owe money to get putting late payments on our credit file but we are paying every month on time The problem is our credits look really bad and we really want to be able to buy a house. We are 43 and 40 so times not on our side
our income is £50,000 house prices where we are are expensive especially as we need a 4 bed, we don’t want to carry on renting.
what can we do to help improve it?
and how likely are we to get a mortgage?
Thank you

what can we do to help improve it?

Clear the debt.  Time will then help improve your history, as long as you start to use credit responsibly, during which time you can save for your deposit and other costs.
