UK search limited and how to take action

Hi all, hope this is the right section. I posted about this over a year ago and here we are, still in the same situation with UK Search. They sent a letter to us regarding someone elses debt who had the same name as my wifes maiden name. So we rang them and told them it wasnt our debt stop wasting their time. Worst thing we ever did! They now text, email and they've even altered it now so its addressed to my wifes married name with her d.o.b. on your forums last advice we sent them a letter which we just needed to insert our names in ect, to which they just ridiculed down the phone. They sent someone to our door and he would not leave even after my wife showed him our tennancy agreement which dates back 6 years and 3 years beyond this other persons debt was even a thing. He kept his foot in the door and didnt believe my wife. I was not at home, and if I was I would have probably got arrested because if I would witnessed that to my wife I would not have stood for it. After that visit I got together old water bills from our supplier (completely different to who they are working on behalf of) and sent them to them covering the period they asked. I thought that was that and 6 months went by with no further contact. Now they are beginning to contact us again. I'm fuming to say the least. It's not even our debt! Who regulates these thugs and where do I complain because I have just about had enough.

Mamy thanks

Rich

Send the provit letter to them, they must provide correct evidence of liability when asked.
Stay off the phone, do everything in writing only, they are just debt collectors.
Should they return, unlikely due to covid, call police on them as trespassers.
I had similar dealings with the idiots, over a DRO debt, I got £100 compensation out of them for wasting my time.

Thats the letter we sent last time, and when they called back up we said we have sent you a letter and you are supposed to cease contact until you can prove and the call agent practically laughed down the phone and her exact words were "what this copy and pasted letter you have sent? You haven't even wrote it!" I couldnt believe it. We are nearly ready to buy a house and I would hate for this to have an impact on that as it is not even our debt. If it was I woupd just pay it, its only 300. I feel like I want to lodge a formal complaint about them but dont know how....

Thats why you never should speak to idiots on phones, legally, demand must be in writing, then they can`t deny evidence, and you have a papertrail.
Its a well worn path for people to be intimidated over the phone by debt collectors, and be told any old rubbish.
In fact they positivley encourage phone contact as it puts them in the driving seat.
For the avoidence of any doubt, they must prove liability for the account, they know that.
