LGPS - Protected Pension Age?

  • Bingo, unfortunately.

Other public sector pension schemes have
different rules, so some do still have age 50  (or earlier) protected rights  - but not the LGPS.

If it's any consolation, if age 50 did still apply then a cash-strapped employer would be unlikely to pick you as the strain costs involved would be humongous.
Thanks Silvertabby. To be honest, in current circumstances, I'd be delighted not to be selected for redundancy!

With service since 1994, I dare say there might well be exit cap complications in the hypothetical scenario of an unreduced pension from 50 (it's the big 'hot topic' for LGPS admin at the moment - the government's populist measure to cap public sector redundancy payoffs in which LGPS 'strain charges' are included in the capped total despite protestations not to)

£90K is still a lot of money for a hard up employer to find.
