No work/pay on stocktakes

I work for a manufacturing company. My standard working week is 39 hours. The company has 4 stocktakes every year (quarterly). I have been here 10 years.
I work 9 Hours Mon-Thurs (minus 30 mins lunch) and 5 hours on Friday.
Stocktake day most of us have off, unpaid, with only managers and company directors working. Is isn't usually a big deal, as it falls on a Friday so it's not a huge amount of money lost, but the next stocktake will be on a Thursday (good Friday is a bank holiday obviously). This is a full day's pay lost!
I've had a look at my contract and there is nothing specifically about stocktakes. The only thing I can find which I believe they can use states:
"Times of starting and finishing work are subject to variation in accordance with the company's business needs ."
Do they have the right to have me not work stocktake and receive no pay?
"The standard working week is 39 hours starting Monday to Friday......." (Goes on to state my usual hours).
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

They could start insisting people use up a
holiday day for stocktakes. Would that be preferable?0 -
Have you spoken to your company to see what they intend to do?JamesFromSomewhere said:I work for a manufacturing company. My standard working week is 39 hours. No, they will fob us off with a silly excuse.Brynsam said:

That wouldn't be the favourable outcome for most of us. We don't like it being a full day's pay lost, the Friday we can accept.KatrinaWaves said:They could start insisting people use up a

But if it was a holiday day you wouldn’t lose any pay? Is your only issue that it’s falls on a Thursday due to BH?JamesFromSomewhere said:

What are your contracted hours? (Not the same thing as your usual working hours.) You should be paid for at least your contracted hours, though this can be averaged over a time period.0

Why let them do that? A bit of persistence is required if that's their normal mode of operation.JamesFromSomewhere said:
