in Cutting tax
Hello,
I am trying to complete self-assessment for last year. I earned around £1500 for doing freelance writing for a company. I don't think I owe tax as I below the threshold but I earned over £1000 so need to declare. I am very confused filling it in whether I need to refer to myself as a self-employed business, or whether I need to refer to the company which I did freelance work for as my employer? I do not know their PAYE number if it is the latter.

It is your business the form is asking about.
Do you mean your total taxable income from all sources is less than your Personal Allowance.0 -
Yes it would be the self employed page you'd fill in, add to it any other PAYE income (from a PAYE job), and if it all is below the threshold, then you are correct to say you won't have any tax to pay.I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!

If it's a one off you might be better looking at this, as you are past the deadline to register as self employed for 2019/20:
