In need of info for my wife please,
She took retirement from part time work September 2020.
She earnt just short of 6k in that time and hasn't and doesn't intend to work again.
She has this last tax years NIC to get full state pension which she is short of by a few £100.
Does that mean she has to pay the full NIC about £800 to get this year's contribution or pro rata as she's almost there?
Thanks for any help

No, she'll just be able to pay the difference voluntarily. It's probably simplest to wait until HMRC have the full 20-21 year details (usually should be updated by Aug-Sep 2021) and then contact them to find out exactly what the shortfall is and pay it, unless she's actually due to reach State Retirement Age before then.1

I had to do the same this year. Given my time again I'd get it sorted as soon as possible after April. I waited for them to update my record which didn't happen so contacted them and they told me how much to pay and gave me a reference number. I paid in early September, started pension in early November and have only just, in January, received the updated amount of pension. So as I say, they are slow and I should have sorted it much earlier.3

Thank you both. We'll get on to them after April0
