How to get a freebie when buying a techie item...?

Hello
I don't know if this post belongs here or maybe it's been mentioned before, but I thought of a way to try to get a freebie when buying a DVD recorder in Dixons yesterday. I've never heard of anyone else trying this but it worked.
I found a shop assistant and said I was interested in the particular model (which I'd researched beforehand and knew quite a bit about) and good-humouredly 'threatened' to ask lots of difficult questions about it, and ask for a demo etc. I said that it was the end of the (working) day and it would save him time and effort if he threw in a box of 10 DVD+Rs and then I would buy it and go quietly and not bother him any more.
After a bit of umming and ar-ing and 'consulting' someone, he agreed.
I wonder if anyone else has tried this or even thought of it? I don't feel too guilty as I did research the product in my own time so saving the shop assistant the trouble of spending time with me.
Hope this helps someone!

When I was starting off at uni,my dad took me to get a laptop. We went to a retail park with LOTS of different computer retailers. We went into one (PC I think), my Dad explained that he would be spending x amount on a a laptop for me today andasked why he should get it there rather than in any of the other shops. After an hour or so we went home with a laptop, printer (they even let me choose what model I wanted), paper, writable cd's, tons of ink, laptop case, all necessary wires and free warrenties for both the printer and the laptop, all for the advertised price of just the laptop.
I know lots of people say you shouldn't bother getting warrenties, but having got both of mine free I've been very happy with them. My laptop broke and they sorted it out the same day. And my printer was covered by instant replacement, so last week (over 2 yrs since I got it) when it broke I took it to my local branch and they replaced it straight away with a brand new canon model (my old one was a canon too) which is tons better than my old one. They even threw in a new 3 year warrenty on the new printer, completly free!0
