Redundancies
Hello,
A company I work for has recently gone through a restructure resulting in my position going from FT to PT (40 hours down to 20)
Another colleague in the department has not had any work to do due to CV-19 but was ‘safe’ during the restructure as when business returns her job will be there and is part of the company’s long term business plan.
Due to me now working 3 days, this colleague has now been asked to help out and cover the other 2 days that I’m not working.
Is this allowed as during the consultation they deemed there wasn’t enough work to justify me being F/T but surely there must be if they are technically ‘hiring’ another person.
TIA

Not necessarily. They aren't hiring a new person, they are redistributing work to other staff members - effectively they have decided that they can operate with fewer people, resulting in some roles becoming redundant or having lower requirements for hours.
Are you able to do the other person's role? It sounds as though they decided that that isn't required full time, but that role, and yours, have been affected by the restructering. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
ACAS would be the best organisation (free advice) to contact and ask about this.0
