Washer dryer

Options
Hello . We are short of space and looking to buy a washer dryer . I know of people who hate and some that say they do the job . Opinions please , do they use more water and electric than stand alones and why? At the moment I have a small td on top of washer not ideal so noisy and moves a lot  and has to be lifted off and moved if boiler needing attention
I have a heated airer so only use a td for school shirts , towels and sometimes bedding so wouldn’t want to be without

I have a washer dryer that I have had for many years.  Obviously a washer dryer is not going to do as good a job  as having separate machines but I don't have space for the two.
I can't answer your question regarding whether they use more water or power.  It may depend on which models you are comparing.
I am fairly satisfied with the washing but rarely use the dryer.  I dry my washing on a clothes horse indoors because I can no longer hang it outside due to my age and the fact that drying clothes in any tumble dryer is fairly expensive.
Unless things have changed since I bought my machine all those years ago, you cannot dry a full load of washing and will need to remove some of the items before you dry.  Also, the drum of a washing machine is smaller than that of a free-standing tumble dryer so clothes will come out creased.
