Accessing magazines online for free via local libraries

I don't know whether this is useful to anyone but thought I would mention it particularly for those who post the magazine puzzles. I access a lot of magazines online via my local library service for free (you just need to have a library card - also free). It will of course depend on your local library service as to whether they subscribe but some of the magazines that have comps in are available e.g.  Radio Times, What's on TV, Bella, Best via my service. Good if you want to save a bit or not head out during the lockdown (whether for prizes or a bit of entertainment). Hope this is useful for someone.

Oh yeah me too grannybiker  :) - I was just checking for what the prizes were in the Radio Times mag this week and it made me think it might be useful for people to know it was an option. Money saving and all that
  • Just seen a promotion on MSE for 3 months free subscription but I use my local library service to read all my magazines and newspapers.
No need to get out of bed on a Saturday to pop across the road for the weekend papers.
It's saved me a fortune, I'm able to read more than I would buy and no waste paper.
It's great for audio books as well.

Readly magazine subscription is good too. There is a 3 months free offer through mse here. It does need to be a brand new account though. Can use mobiles, tablets or pc to read them once registered.

This does look good. Obviously that deal's expired but the link has a new deal on it.

The catch is, you have to claim the 100 days deal by 3/3/2026 but the deal doesn't seem start till later next year in 8/8/2027.

i'd like to think there's a typo somewhere but I don't know how to alert an admin/mod to check on it.

@zagubov The 100 days free trial deal starts straight away it's the 15% off deal that starts at the end of the free trial if you decide to keep it on that starts later on.

    Thanks for the information @becski

I did have an old library card which hasn't been used in ages as I mainly use the Kindle app for reading. The information about being able to read free magazines digitally made me decide to renew my membership and download Pressreader.

I read every edition of some magazines, my favourite mag initially cost just over £1 and the price has now increased to over £3, and lots of it was filled with advertising.

It was becoming too expensive, and now I can read free of charge.
