Should I take a PAYE contract if I'm also intending to trade as a self employed performing artiste

My full time job is a self employed performing artiste.  I also work for retail houses during the day as a fitting model.  Also self employed.  I claimed Weiss grants 1,2 and 3 as my work has been adversely affected sometimes not working for months on end. I intend to continue to work in the above to professions going forward, However recently I was contacted by one of my fashion retail houses wanting me to fit for them on a regular basis.  Anywhere from 2 hours a week up to 35 hours per week if they liked me and if it went well.  The only problem was they said for the position, I would have to be placed on payroll and deductions/benefits would be as a usual full time contract.  I did respond by saying I would need to look into how that effects my employment status as I intend to be self-employed going forward and not ceasing any of my performance contracts.  They said they would look into it all for me but I feel it's my responsibility to double check this as they are eager for me to start.  Im concerned it sounds like a great opportunity, however what happens if after a few months they decide there isn't enough product to fit or they have a better model etc?  There dent seem to be any guarantee, or probationary period.  they are promising a lot of hours but imagine I lost my SEISS benefits because I agreed to becoming employed and they only booked me for 2 -4 hours a week?

How would all this actually affect me? Much thanks, I look forward to hearing from you, kind regards, xx

  • You can be employed on PAYE basis and self-employed at the same time - or just PAYE for a while.

Regarding SEISS, perhaps you should post on the dedicated Covid19 area of this website.
