What happens when UC asks you to get another job in line with the agreement you'll sign with them? Going to the job centre is for them unable to work, found to be incompetent of doing job, and generally getting notice served on them rather then other way round. A life on benefits is by no means easy. A new employer slightly better option but is always going to call the shots because you want to work there. I'm not trying to be mean or unpleasant - I'm attempting to walk away from my continuous job of a year to go to a new job with some doubts creeping in, and that's with no ppe provided from departing employer whatsoever and having to know other colleagues in a comparative role are working from home when I'm called in. Took me ages to realise you'll go from one employer to the next without changing anything, policy wise, just the people and surroundings though if you get to work with something you are interested in then you've hit gold and risk truly goes out the window.0

Yes you can.
A friend left a toxic soul destroying job after five years of hell and being not all that IT savvy, asked me to lodge a UC claim for her. I did, she got a decent payout. Still on it. In the current climate, that's the safest most secure 'job' one could get.
I wouldn't work in a supermarket even for triple what I earn now so I totally get you.

If the OP is finding the situation is causing them serious stress or anxiety they should contact their GP and get signed off work. They will then potentially be paid and away from risk, depending on the company sick pay policy. If the OP simply resigns it is highly probable that they will be sanctioned on UC.The OP doesn't say if they are single or have a partner who is working. A partner working could also affect entitlement to UC. If they have worked full time for 5 years there may be an entitlement to New Style JSA. I can't remember now whether or not Conts Based benefits are also liable to sanctions.1
